ABOUT JOHN STAMPS

John E. Stamps, has been a dedicated resident of Collierville for 29 years, serving as an Alderman for over nine years. His journey in public service began in January of 2015 when the Board appointed him to fill the remaining two years of Alderman Jimmy Lott’s term, following Lott’s passing.  John was subsequently elected Alderman in 2016 and re-elected in 2020.

For the past decade, John has played a crucial role in shaping the future of Collierville guiding the town’s direction, growth, development and safety. His commitment to the community is evident through his involvement in various town committees and boards, including the Collierville Planning Commission, Historic District Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, the 2040 Collierville Land Use Steering Committee, Library Board, Main Street Collierville, and Tourism Board. He is also a proud graduate and former board member of Leadership Collierville.

Continuing his family’s legacy, John opened "The Stamps Real Estate Company" on the square, a decision rooted in his deep ties to Collierville. His family’s presence in the community dates back to the early 1900s when his great-grandfather established “Stamps Proprietors”, a gas station on the square. His grandfather later founded “The Stamps Motor Company” and then " The Citizens Bank" also on the square. John’s grandfather served as an Alderman and eventually Mayor in the 1950s. These deep roots have instilled in him a sense of pride and commitment to preserving and protecting Collierville for future generations.

John’s personal life is equally devoted to service, particularly in the special needs community. Inspired by his daughter, Brooke, who was born with Down Syndrome, John has been actively involved in various organizations supporting individuals with special needs. He has served on the board for the Memphis Down Syndrome Association, volunteered with Best Buddies, co-founded Memphis D.A.D.S group, (Dads Appreciating Down Syndrome), and contributed to Habitat for Humanity, among other local charities.

John has been married to his wife Kathy for 29 years, and together they have 2 children, Brooke (25) and Thomas (21). He attended The University of Memphis. In his free time, John enjoys being near water—whether deep-sea fishing with friends, relaxing at the lake or beach with his family, or swimming laps at sunrise in a pool.
